This design-build project included the design and construction of a 32,900 square foot Army Standard (COS) Design Chapel Complex and a 10,000 square foot Religious Education Facility to accommodate from 600 to 1,200 attendees and to provide new administrative facilities for the Fort Hood Garrison Chaplain Command. The Contract required LEED Silver certification. With a collaborative effort between Solis and the Corps of Engineers, LEED Gold certification was achieved at no additional cost to the Government. This project is the Army’s first LEED Gold certified chapel.
The Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center is an award winning 38,500 square foot cultural facility on a 4.44 acre site constructed for the City of Austin on the shores of Lady Bird Lake. The space includes three interconnected buildings consisting of a 300-seat theater, an art exhibit gallery, a two story crescent shaped building with administrative offices, classrooms, multimedia presentation areas, a reception area, and a large dance rehearsal studio. There are also extensive outdoor recreation areas. The entire design centers on a two acre zócalo that opens toward Lady Bird Lake and its hike and bike trail. The “MACC” is an architectural icon of the community it represents.
